The Compelling Reason
This week I took the plunge. I upgraded my old Mac Book Pro from Snow Leopard to Lion.
I was concerned that I might run into issues with some older applications like Adobe Photoshop CS3. Fortunately I have had none this far with Photoshop. The one thing that I did run into issues with was running the Parallels 5 virtual machines on Lion. When I booted up the VMs the network card setups had to be reconfigured. I was able to find a script that helps me continue onward without upgrading to newer versions of Parallels. Additionally, if one wanted to save dollars, Oracle offers VirtualBox for free.
Lion has some cool new features that you can learn more about on the Apple site. I won’t spend time on most of them here. The one compelling feature for me to move to Lion is iBooks Author. iBooks Author, a free download from the app store, is not available to older versions of the Mac OS.
If you are a writer, a creative of sorts, or just want to tell the world a story, as an independent, your best bet may well be using iBooks Author.
One more thing to say: I wrote this entry using my wife’s ipad2!
Free Things – February 6, 2012
Recently I tinkered with some javascript to generate a typing game. It’s not complete, nor advanced. You might find it fun to pick apart and understand how you might use the techniques in your own works. Be sure to check it out — typeWordGame. If you wish, DOWNLOAD a Zip archive of the game.
The object of the game is to type the word in the text input box before it reaches the bottom of the blue canvas area. The words get faster!!!!
Want a free ringtone for your Android based phone? Try my new free app: Ringtone – These Two Minutes. Did I mention that it’s FREE!!!!
